Selecting Your Equipment
The Dart
Darts come in pieces - the barrel - the shaft and the flight.
There are many different types to choose from, simply buy a set of darts you find attractive, we'll talk about fine tuning later.
There is too much emphasis placed on finding the "right dart". Just make sure that when your dart hits the board it sticks straight in, that means the dart should be at right angles to the board. It's best not to carry more than one set of darts. Changing darts will do nothing to improve your scores. The actual shape of the barrel you choose means very little until you can land the 3 darts within the area of a 10 cent piece. A handy hint when purchasing your first set of darts. The weight of the dart depends on how fast (hard) you throw the darts. If you lob the dart and/or throw slowly you should select a heavy set of darts, say 28 to 35 grams. If you throw the dart hard (fast) you can look at lighter darts, say 18 to 27 grams. It's important to remember that heavier darts compensate slightly for inconsistent throws.
